COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Marion County woman died in an early-morning crash on northbound I-65 near the 59-mile marker in southern Bartholomew County on New Year’s Day. The woman, from Indianapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene according to officials from Indiana State Police and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement said there were several vehicles involved in the accident and some of the occupants were transported to Columbus Regional Health for treatment.

The wreck occurred at around 1:30 a.m. and closed the northbound lanes of I-65 for almost six hours. Traffic was diverted onto State Road 11 and U.S. 31.

The stretch of the interstate between Seymour and Columbus has yielded numerous wrecks during the current construction period. A third travel lane in each direction is being added to I-65.
