Vaccination rates slowly climbing in Indiana

Columbus, IN, USA / QMIX 107.3

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) says that over 3.5 million Hoosiers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. However, that number represents only 54.9% of the state’s eligible population.

According to ISDH, 59.5% of state citizens ages 12 and older are fully vaccinated compared to 60.9% of residents ages 16 and older and 61.5% of Hoosiers older than 18. Currently, 57% of Bartholomew County is fully vaccinated.

While residents are still being vaccinated, the rate at which they are receiving the shots is fairly slow. Last Friday, the state health department confirmed only 2,835 new fully vaccinated individuals despite doses being widely available for almost one year.

On a more positive note, fully vaccinated Hoosiers are getting their boosters. Over 13,000 doses of the third shot were administered on Friday. Nearly 1.5 million Indiana residents have been boosted.
