COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Fire Department (CFD) responded to a grease fire on Thursday morning at the downtown Dairy Queen, 616 Third Street.
When firefighters arrived, the fire had already been extinguished. The deep fat fryers caught fire when they were turned on for the start of business. A DQ employee put out the fire with an extinguisher before flames reached the restaurant’s fire suppression hood system.
As a result of the fire and extinguishment agent discharge, firefighters ventilated smoke from the business with ventilation fans. No visible damage was reported.
According to CFD, the downtown Dairy Queen will be temporarily closed until the health department can inspect the restaurant following the cleanup efforts by the restaurant. No timeline for a re-opening was provided and no injuries were reported.
