CROTHERSVILLE, Ind. – A Columbus woman was seriously hurt after a single-vehicle accident Saturday on I-65. The Indiana State Police-Versailles Post investigated the personal injury crash in southern Jackson County that resulted in a passenger being airlifted from the scene.

The initial investigation indicated that at 3:30 p.m., a car driven by Edward D. E. Garrett, 32, of Columbus, was traveling north at the 42-mile marker, near Crothersville. For an unknown reason, he lost control of the vehicle.

The car left the road and rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its top. The driver was not injured, however, his wife, Valerie Garrett, 32, of Columbus, was entrapped with possible serious injuries. The Seymour Fire Department extricated her from the vehicle and she was then flown to a hospital for further treatment. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Investigators believe speed and unsafe lane movements played a role in the accident. Edward Garrett submitted to a test for intoxication and those results are pending.

Northbound I-65 was closed for approximately 90 minutes for crash investigation and cleanup.
