AURORA, Ind. – The former treasurer of the Aurora Farmers Fair was arrested Monday on a felony theft charge after an investigation by Indiana State Police (ISP) Investigators into multiple unauthorized purchases made since 2022 using the Farmers Fair funds.

The inquiry by ISP-Versailles Post detectives began in March when the fair board reported money missing from the Aurora Farmers Fair bank accounts. It was determined that the board treasurer during that timeframe, Scott A. Petty, 54, Moores Hill, Indiana, supposedly used the company credit card and bank account to pay for personal vacations, bills, car payments, and other miscellaneous items. The suspect allegedly spent over $70,000 of the Farmers Fair funds for personal gain.

After the investigation, the case was presented to the Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office for review, resulting in Petty being charged with one count of Theft (over $50,000), a Level 5 Felony.

Petty turned himself in to the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center where he was incarcerated on the charge pending an initial appearance in court.
