NORTH VERNON, Ind. – Jennings County Sheriff Kenny Freeman and the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) are mourning the unexpected passing of Doug Brown.

His commitment to law enforcement began in 2014 when he joined JCSO as a reserve deputy. In 2016, he transitioned into a full-time deputy sheriff position. Although Brown resigned from the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office in December 2020, he continued to serve as a reserve deputy.

Throughout his tenure, Reserve Deputy Doug Brown was known for his expertise as a Defensive Tactics, Emergency Vehicle Operations, and S.T.O.P.S. Instructor. He was dedicated to training and ensuring the safety of his fellow officers and the community.

The impact he had on the department and the county went beyond training. He actively worked to protect Jennings County’s children, making several important arrests related to child solicitors.

Sheriff Freeman said, “Our hearts go out to the Brown Family as they mourn the loss of a beloved father, brother, husband, and dear friend. Doug’s legacy of service and dedication will always be remembered and cherished by the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office and the community he served.”
