COLUMBUS, Ind. – The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Peer-to-Peer Education offers a free, eight-session class for adults grappling with mental health conditions, aiming to deepen their self-awareness and understanding of their journey toward recovery. The program begins on Tuesday, April 30, at 5:30 p.m., at the Recovery Cafe Columbus, 1412 Sycamore St.

Led by trained facilitators who have navigated similar experiences, this program incorporates a blend of activities, group discussions, and informative videos. However, in line with NAMI’s approach, it does not provide specific recommendations for treatment methods.

This initiative fosters a safe, confidential environment conducive to mutual support and personal growth. Participants find solace in the empathy and understanding of others who can relate to their experiences. It serves as a platform to delve into recovery within a non-judgmental setting.

NAMI Peer-to-Peer equips individuals to:

  • Establish a vision and set goals for the future
  • Collaborate effectively with healthcare providers
  • Cultivate confidence in decision-making
  • Utilize relaxation techniques and stress management tools
  • Share personal narratives
  • Strengthen interpersonal connections
  • Enhance communication skills
  • Gain insight into mental health treatment options
