BARGERSVILLE, Ind. – The Bargersville Police Department is investigating a deadly accident that occurred around 4:45 a.m. on Sunday.

An off-duty Sheriff’s Deputy called dispatch to report a vehicle driving erratically on State Road 144 in Bargersville. The car had blown a tire and was driving on the rim at a high rate of speed. While on-duty officers were en route to the area, the vehicle lost control and ran off the roadway, crashing into a garage near Carlisle Street and Old Plank Road in Bargersville.

When law enforcement arrived, they found the driver, 16-year-old Elijah Mobley, of Indianapolis, inside. The Johnson County Coroner’s Office pronounced the teenager dead.

Authorities say that at this time is suspected that alcohol may have been a factor in the accident, as an open container was allegedly found in the vehicle. Toxicology reports are pending.
