COLUMBUS, Ind. – Last Thursday, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) took Tanner Vandeman, 24 of Columbus, into custody on the preliminary charge of voyeurism after he was reportedly recording an eight-year-old girl in the shower at a local fitness gym.
The suspect was incarcerated at the Bartholomew County Jail. Criminal Investigations Division detectives continued to investigate. They applied for, and were granted, a 72-hour hold for Vandeman on Friday, May 9.
Investigators also obtained a search warrant for the recording devices taken when he was arrested. After reviewing the evidence and working with the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office, formal charges of child exploitation (level 4 felony) and voyeurism (level 6 felony) were filed in Bartholomew County Superior Court I on Wednesday, May 14.
Vandeman remains in jail on a $275,000 bond and a Johnson County arrest warrant. The investigation is ongoing, and there is a potential for additional charges.
All charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
