COLUMBUS, Ind. – Black History Columbus (BHC) has announced its 2025 Community Juneteenth Calendar. Nine featured events have been prepared across the city for a month-long celebration of the 160th anniversary of the emancipation of all slaves in the United States.
These events represent the power of collaboration and the beauty of community engagement, and Black History Columbus invites individuals, families, and organizations to take part in this celebration.
“We always aim to promote community, culture, and collaboration,” said BCH organizers. “We’re excited to continue the momentum from Black History Month and invite the community to join us in honoring Juneteenth.” Toyota and the African American Foundation are sponsoring this year’s calendar.
Featured events include:
- June 6: Author reading and book signing at Viewpoint Books, highlighting Black authors
- June 7: Hair Love, celebrating natural hair and acceptance of all textures and styles
- June 14: 5k Freedom Walk, promoting health, unity, and reflection
- June 19: Black Heritage Trail Ribbon Cutting, honoring Black-owned businesses from the early 19th and 20th centuries and celebrating the legacy of Black entrepreneurship in Columbus
- June 21: City-wide Juneteenth Family Reunion at The Lex, featuring food, music, and games for the whole family
- June 21: Juneteenth After-Party Celebration, bringing the community together for a night of music, dancing, and networking
- June 22: Second Baptist Church 146th Anniversary, celebrating the oldest African American church in Columbus with music, worship, and a message of hope for the future
- June 28: Community Blood Drive, honoring the spirit of giving and collective care
In the spirit of partnership, the Bartholomew County Public Library Express Bus will provide free books to the community at several of these events.
