NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) has announced that Deputy Matt Miller successfully graduated from D.A.R.E. Instructor Training Class #42 last month, earning the distinction of Top Student of the Class. This two-week course was held in Fishers for law enforcement officers from Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
The training included a comprehensive written exam, six curriculum-based presentations of up to 45 minutes each, and a practical evaluation at a local YMCA, where officers were graded on their ability to effectively engage and educate youth.
D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a program dedicated to teaching students about the dangers of drug use, helping them develop decision-making skills, and empowering them to make safe and healthy choices.
Today’s D.A.R.E. program extends beyond the original “just say no” approach, covering vital topics like social media safety, bullying prevention, and the risks of vaping. Miller’s work ethic, leadership, positive attitude, and perfect score of 100% on the written test earned him top honors among his peers.
“Investing in our youth and encouraging them to make good decisions is one of the best investments we can make as a sheriff’s office and as a community. We look forward to expanding our D.A.R.E. program here in Jennings County,” said JCSO Chief Deputy Cody Low.
