SEYMOUR, Ind. – A coordinated law enforcement operation initiated by the FBI resulted in the apprehension of 11 unauthorized immigrants wanted on warrants in the Jackson County area on Monday.

These arrests targeted individuals who had already been charged with or convicted of serious violent crimes, including drugs, child molesting, sexual battery, strangulation, and domestic violence.

Some of those taken into custody have been deported more than once. No arrests were made at schools or businesses, and any children at the targeted residences remained with a parent or guardian.

This effort is part of an ongoing initiative to remove dangerous offenders and strengthen public safety. The success of the operation stemmed from extensive planning and intelligence sharing among federal and local partners, including ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), the Seymour Police Department (SPD), and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).

By leveraging combined investigative resources and enforcement capabilities, authorities were able to identify, locate, and apprehend individuals who posed a significant threat to the community or had violated federal law.

“This was not a sweep, nor did it involve schools or other sensitive locations. The focus was solely on removing dangerous offenders to protect the safety of our residents,” said SPD Chief Greg O’Brien. “Public safety remains our top priority, and this operation reflects our ongoing commitment to keeping our neighborhoods safe.”
