COLUMBUS, Ind. – In an effort to combat food insecurity within the community, the Columbus Fire Department (CFD) has announced a new partnership with the Love Chapel Food Bank, the Salvation Army Food Bank, and the Columbus Kroger store.

This collaborative initiative, known as “Firefighters Fighting Hunger,” is endorsed by the Indiana State Fire Marshal and is set to make a significant impact during Hunger Action Month in September.

This Saturday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., CFD firefighters, along with representatives from the Love Chapel Food Bank and the Salvation Army Food Bank, will be at the Columbus Kroger store to assist in the collection of non-perishable food items. Shoppers will have the opportunity to meet local firefighters and food-bank representatives, who will provide shopping lists of the most needed items to encourage contributions that help fill the shelves at local food banks.

“We are thrilled to partner with Love Chapel, the Salvation Army, and Kroger to address the critical issue of food insecurity,” said Fire Chief Andy Lay. “These partnerships are vital in providing essential resources to those in need, and we are committed to working together to make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors.”

The “Firefighters Fighting Hunger” campaign aims to raise awareness and gather essential supplies for those struggling with hunger. CFD and its partners are striving to make an impact during Hunger Action Month.

Community members are encouraged to participate by visiting Kroger this Saturday. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help ensure that local food banks can provide food items to those in need.
