COLUMBUS, Ind. – If you’re looking to support a good cause this holiday season, the “Our Common Goods” Initiative is a community-led effort dedicated to serving those in need in Bartholomew County.
The primary goal of “Our Common Goods” is to keep blessing boxes stocked with food and other essential items. Blessing boxes are community-powered pantries open 24/7 that rely on donations to stay full. These boxes sometimes run low on essential items, and it is not always clear when they need restocking.
“Our Common Goods” meets at the Bartholomew County Democratic Party headquarters at 1417 Chestnut Street every Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The most needed food items are non-perishable, easy to open, and ready to eat, including:
- Canned soups, stews, chili, and pasta meals
- Canned tuna, chicken, or other proteins
- Peanut butter and nut butters
- Crackers, granola bars, and snack packs
- Boxed mac & cheese or instant pasta cups
- Canned fruits and vegetables
- Rice, instant potatoes, or shelf-stable grains
Other essential items include hygiene items, which are always appreciated and often overlooked, such as:
- Toothpaste, toothbrushes, and soap
- Deodorant and shampoo
- Feminine hygiene products
- Baby wipes and diapers
- Toilet paper and paper towels
