COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the latest in its Third House series on Monday morning. State Senator Greg Walker and State Representative Ryan Lauer fielded the questions.

There was a noteworthy divergence of viewpoint between the two on the matter of a bill that has passed the House and is headed to the Senate. It would ban curriculum materials that made any student uncomfortable and require the posting of curricula. Walker is not in favor of it in its present form. Lauer is in favor, saying that its focus is empowering parents. It would establish an advisory committee, comprised of 60% parents. He says, “I’ll be clear. Lots of schools are teaching very divisive topics.”

The two also addressed bills that would help local jails make flexible decisions about housing Level 6 felons, cut income tax by 3%, and wind/solar installation developers’ responsibilities
