NORTH VERNON, Ind—A two-vehicle head-on crash just east of North Vernon, near Rose Acre Farms, claimed the life of a 54-year-old Jennings County man on Thursday morning. The North Vernon Police Department, Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), and North Vernon Fire Department responded.
The initial investigation indicated that shortly after 7:30 a.m., a car driven by 54-year-old William L. Rabe Jr., of North Vernon, was traveling west on US 50 near Private Road 125 East. For an unknown reason, his vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a car operated by Daniel L. Plumm, 36, of North Vernon. The vehicles collided in the eastbound lane of US 50.
Plumm was taken to St. Vincent/Jennings Hospital in North Vernon with serious injuries before being transferred to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment.
Rabe sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Jennings County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation by JCSO and Indiana State Police is ongoing. Toxicology results are pending, but alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor at this time.
