FRANKLIN, Ind. - Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractor Milestone Contractors, L.P., will begin preliminary work for Phase 3 of the U.S. 31 corridor improvement project in Franklin on Monday, February 9.

Crews will close the left lanes of northbound and southbound U.S. 31 between Adams Street and North Main Street/Westview Drive while preliminary work is in progress. Phase 3 preliminary work is expected to be complete in early March, weather permitting.

Pre-construction will include removing the raised medians to prepare portions of U.S. 31 for Phase 3, which will take place between Youngs Creek and just north of Lemley Street. INDOT will provide more information before the start of Phase 3 construction.

Phase 3 is anticipated to begin in mid-spring 2026. More details and updates as work progresses are available via INDOT NewsFacebook, and X. Information on what is coming to U.S. 31 is here.

The intersection improvement project is part of a $66.2 million contract. Overall, work is anticipated to be complete in 2028. Additional information about the overall project can be found on the INDOT Southeast webpage.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
