COLUMBUS, Ind. - The City of Columbus has announced the appointment of Mike Wolanin as its new Communication Manager. Wolanin, a well-known local professional with deep ties to the community, brings a wealth of experience in visual storytelling and public information to the role.

Wolanin transitions to the city administration following a career as a photojournalist and photo editor at The Republic. During his tenure at the newspaper, Wolanin was instrumental in documenting the city’s growth, covering everything from major downtown strategic planning to critical public safety events.

"Mike’s deep understanding of our community and his proven track record in professional communications make him an ideal fit for this position. As the city continues to move forward with major initiatives, Mike’s ability to engage with the public and tell the story of Columbus will be invaluable," said Mayor Mary Ferdon.

In his new role, Wolanin will oversee the city’s internal and external communication strategies, manage media relations, and lead efforts to enhance transparency between city hall and the public. He will also be responsible for streamlining digital communications and ensuring that residents have timely access to information regarding city services and projects.

Wolanin commented, "I am honored to serve the City of Columbus. Having spent years telling the stories of this community through a lens, I look forward to working directly with our team to keep residents informed and engaged as we build upon the things that make Columbus a world-class place to live and work."

A U.S. Army veteran, Wolanin is a resident of the area and remains active in local community events. He officially begins his duties with the City of Columbus on April 6.
