COLUMBUS, Ind. – It was a busy Thursday night for the Columbus Fire Department (CFD). In addition to responding to an earlier residential blaze, firefighters were also called to a vehicle fire inside a garage at around 10:30 p.m., in the 3300 block of Berkshire Place, after the residents found thick black smoke in their garage.

The homeowner, Mervin Brunette, told CFD that he and his wife smelled smoke but initially could not locate the source. Upon opening the door to the garage, they saw lots of smoke so they exited the home and called 911.

Emergency crews arrived, forced entry to the home, and pushed their way to the garage where they found flames coming from one of the vehicles inside. The fire was quickly brought under control.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
