First Fridays for Families is a free program geared toward children in pre-kindergarten through third grade. All First Fridays for Families begin at 6 PM on the first Friday of each month from November through April and are held in the Nugent Custer Performance Hall in the Commons in downtown Columbus. Arthur Smith of the Arts Council said, “This is a great way to introduce the arts to a young audience in a fun environment. And thanks to our generous title sponsor, Old National Bank, this program is free.”

Friday, November 1, 2013: Madcap Puppets Theatre presents Fantastic Fairy Tales. The classic fairy tales unfold with giant puppets, audience participation, and a surprise twist. The tales includeThe Wishing TreeThe Water of Life, and Rapunzel.

Friday, December 6, 2013: The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati brings Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol, to life. The audience will encounter Ebenezer Scrooge and his harrowing Christmas Eve adventure in one of the best-loved holiday stories of all time. The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future will teach more than just Ebenezer a timeless lesson.

 

Friday, January 3, 2014: Start the new year off with a hilarious, high-energy, family comedy show by Johnny Magic. This interactive show includes silly characters, colorful props, fun music, audience participation and of course jaw-dropping magic. From giving CPR to a raccoon to riding down an imaginary escalator, Johnny’s unique performance will make audiences laugh.

Friday, February 7, 2014: Billy Jonas throws out the rules when he hits the stage. His show is a musical conversation and a sonic celebration where the audience makes the music.

Friday, March 7, 2014: Let the wild rumpus begin with The Wild Rumpus World Circus. This one-of-a-kind circus that combines hilarious clowning with aerial artistry, fantastic stilt characters with mask theater and rapid fire juggling. The Wild Rumpus ensures a lively and engaging performance.

Friday, April 4, 2014: Columbus’ own Dancers Studio finishes the season with Peter and the Wolf. This classic tale tells the story of Peter as he makes a plan to catch a wolf who is trying to eat his animal friends.
