A program geared toward family members and seniors. Presenter Nancy Jones will begin with defining the various levels of senior living. She will proceed to information on how to shop for senior living including what to look for and what to avoid when visiting potential residences. Jones is the author of a soon to be published book on senior living and is the Corporate Marketing Director for BHI Senior Living, the parent company of Four Seasons.

Instructor Treva Lambert will demonstrate how to decorate Santa, Snowmen and bell cookies. She will also cover other designs and techniques. Treva has been decorating cakes and cookies for over 33 years and she and her husband own The Original Party Mart.

Celtic Fiddler, Emily Ann Thompson, along with her husband Kelly, perform a Celtic Christmas concert. They will play traditional songs of Christmas and the winter holiday season from Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales mixed in with some up-beat jigs and reels featuring fiddle/ violin, vocals, piano, guitar, and percussion. Emily Ann & Kelly have an extensive performance schedule, performing over 100 shows a year in many venues around Indiana as well as nationally. In addition they have performed several times in Ireland. Program sponsored by the Bartholomew County Library Associates.

Sue Griffith Smith vice president of technology and applied science at Ivy Tech will chat about her first novel entitled Sacrifice. The book tells the story of Laurel Mae Blair, a girl growing up in an Eastern Kentucky mining town who wants out — out of the coal camp, out of the mountains and out of poverty. She marries and talks her husband into leaving their home and moving to Indiana in an attempt to fit into a higher socioeconomic class. In addition to her book Smith will talk about the culture of the mining families in eastern Kentucky, and on the process of writing a novel. Copies of Sacrifice will be available from the author.

Kwanza is a celebration that honors African heritage in African-American culture. It is observed from December 26 through January 1. Tonight’s program will feature this year’s theme Practicing the Culture of Kwanza: Living the Seven Principles. After the program there will be a feast in the Conference Room. Those attending are asked to bring a side dish. This celebration has been organized by the local NAACP.
