BARGERSVILLE, Ind. - Bargersville Fire Chief Eric Funkhouser announced late Saturday night that, effective immediately, he is vacating his fire chief position. Deputy Chief Mike Morris has been named the interim fire chief in Bargersville.
Although Funkhouser is resigning in Bargersville, he will continue as Chief of the Whiteland Fire Department.
Funkhouser is now two years cancer-free after being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2024.
On his Facebook page, he said, "With my second anniversary of my brain cancer diagnosis and brain scan coming up, I have decided with my closest friends and family to step down as Fire Chief of Bargersville Fire. I want to pursue more time with my family and have less stress in my life. I am proud of what we accomplished during my tenure. I always want to put the people who were always there for me first in my life. Life is too short not to make them the priority."
