FRANKLIN, Ind. - Franklin Community Schools (FCS) has announced that Brian Gabel has been named the district’s Chief of Police. The FCS Board of School Trustees approved the recommendation at its March 9 meeting.
Gabel will lead the planning and implementation of district-wide safety efforts, oversee school safety and child welfare initiatives, and collaborate closely with building leaders and staff to ensure schools remain safe, supportive, and responsive to student needs. He will also play a key role in establishing the Franklin Community Schools Police Department.
He has over 30 years of experience in law enforcement and school safety. He completed the Indianapolis Police Department and the Illinois Police Training Academies. His career has included leadership and training roles within the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) and time spent as a School Resource Officer (SRO). Most recently, he has served as Director of Security and Facilities at Greenwood Christian Academy.
“I am excited to bring more than 30 years of law enforcement and school safety experience to Franklin Community Schools,” Gabel said. “I want students to feel safe so they can learn and thrive in a secure environment. Our primary focus will be protecting our school community while partnering with parents in their children’s educational experience.”
The FCS Chief of Police will begin his role with the district later this month.
