COLUMBUS, Ind. — The City of Columbus announced that Jody Coffman is taking on the new role of community development specialist on Thursday, April 9.

Coffman brings years of community development experience to the new role. She will be responsible for a wide variety of duties, including general office administration, researching and supporting community development strategies and activities, as well as enhancing public awareness of community development initiatives and community outreach.

She will also play a vital role in serving as a liaison between community stakeholders and the city hall.
“It’s an area that I started in,” Coffman said. “So, it’s kind of getting back to where I started here with the city, but this time it combines Expo, which has been my baby for the last four years.”

Through expert planning and execution, Coffman revitalized Ethnic Expo, Columbus’ signature downtown celebration, by expanding participation and attendance. Ethnic Expo is the largest community event in Columbus. She also helps manage the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) in downtown Columbus. Coffman is a graduate of Greensburg High School and Ball State University. She is currently in her second year of a certified public management course at Ball State. She expects to complete the course in August.

"Jody has been a valuable member of the Community Development staff for several years, and we are pleased she will continue on in her new role with the department,” Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon said. “She brings creativity to showcasing events and services for Columbus and has successfully led the Ethnic Expo team for several years. We're excited her talents will continue to be used to support critical projects for our community.”

Coffman assumes her new role as community development specialist effective immediately.
